PIA airline also commonly know as PIA started its operations son after the Independence of Pakistan, in June 1946, when Pakistan was still in the offing, Mr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the Founder of the upcoming nation, instructed Mr. M.A. Ispahani, a leading industrialist, to set up a national airline, on a priority basis. Moreover it was awarded IATA Operational Safety Registration in 2005. It also showed the biggest volume boost in 2006 by Frankfurt Airport Authority. It also has a line of domestic awards including the “Brands of the Year” Award, “Consumers Choice Award” and “The Best Airlines Award (Cargo)”. PIA also received the shield by Presidency of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia for its outstanding services provided over the period of Hajj and Umrah as well.

PIA Airline is majority owned by the Government of Pakistan (87%) while the remainder (13%) by private shareholders. PIA airline falls under the direction of the Ministry of Defense chaired by its current chairman, Ahmad Mukhtar. The airline is managed by managing director, as well as the Board of Directors. The Board consists of nine independent non-executive members and has four sub-committees.

With representatives of FAI (Federation Aeronautique International) on board to monitor the official timings, PIA airline completed the flight in 6 hours, 43 minutes, 51 seconds, a record which remains unbroken to this day.
